Fusion unresponsive after upgrade

After upgrading to Catalina on my iMac my vmfusion was just showing a black screen after a little searching online i decided to install the trial version of fusion v 11. After that install when i tried to open fusion I was getting some sort of error saying I needed to resume fusion so i could shut it down. But evertime I tried to resume I kept getting some sort of broken pipe error. After finding out how to do a force shut down, which I then did, fusion opens and loads windows but is now unresponsive. Widows is loaded, all my apps are then but I cant mouse click on anything. When I try nothing happens.

Please advise.

failed VMware Tools install on OSX and Windows 7

Realy boring no copy and paste working on Fusion 11.5 on virtual Win 7 x64 nor OSX Mavericks.

 

During VMware Tools installation (Fusion 11.5) I get on both systems Win 7 and OSX a error during instalation.

On Win 7 I run setup64 with administration rights but there is always a VGauthService failed.

On OSX it says installation failed.

 

What can I do?

Is anyone able to do with with UEM/DEM? We're utilizing UEM 9.8 today, and I kind of assumed it would be a simple ADMX policy, but, either no such luck or I'm missing it as an option. All of our VDI sessions that I'm trying to hit are Kiosk devices used by Medical staff, and they prefer military/24 hour time as the default.

 

I found this thread on Microsoft's forums, which is the closest I've gotten so far. Just wanted to see if anyone could point it out to me in UEM before I went all the way down this path.

I am looking for an api call to determine the naa of a datastore. i have looked through all the documentation but haven't been able to find anything. Is it possible to pull this information?

Unable to add existing VMDK to new VM

I lost a previous installation of esxi 6.5 due to boot drive failure.  This installation had 2 data stores: one on the boot drive ("VM_POOL") and another 7TB one on a RAID6 configuration ("DELL_RAID6").  This 7TB data store mainly contained one large virtual disk which was used as a secondary drive on a Windows VM.  I lost that VM but I still have that VMDK.

 

I replaced the boot drive and installed esxi again, but this time with v6.7 U1 A03 (based on a Dell customized ISO). The new system booted up without issues and automatically found the 7TB data store.  I created a new datastore "VM_POOL" for a new Windows VM.  Then I tried to add the VMDK to this new VM as a secondary drive but this is where the problem is. I am getting an error when I try to do so:

 

  • Failed to add disk 'scsi0:1'.
  • Failed to power on 'scsi0:1'.
  • Cannot open the disk '/vmfs/volumes/59349365-08186f18-21e2-1866da64be1d/Server/Server_1.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on.
  • Failed to lock the file

 

There are actually 2 VMDK files in the data store

server_1.vmdk

server_1-000002.vmdk

 

I should note, in case it matters, that the new VM_POOL is based on VMFS6 whereas the old Dell_RAID6 is on VMFS5.  I hope somebody has encountered the same problem and knows how to resolve it.  Thanks for your feedback in advance.

Horizon Client only Showing RDP as a connection option after recompose

We have MS Office in our Gold Image rather than a appvol and after updating office, when I recomposed the pool, I was no longer able to connect getting an error "A user has requested a type of logon that has not been granted..." upon closer inspection I found that the option of r connecting to VMs in that pool was now RDP (neither Blast or PCoIP appeare in the drop down). Rolling back to the previous image restores connection via PCoIP.

 

Thoughts?

Unable to expnad a datastore

I started using this server with a 32TB RAID5. I created a 32TB datastore. Later I added two more drives to the array, so it expanded to 54TB. I can't find the way to expand my datastore to 54TB or create another one.

On Demand vs Classroom Training

Hello All,

 

I am new to vmware world and their products and once i finish their prerequisites training to attend NSX-T 2.4 ICM, i am planning to take vmware authorized training to learn NSX-T 2.4 ICM course.

but not able to decide whether i should go for classroom or on demand??

 

classroom

5 working days

need to take leave from office

no exam voucher

but can ask many questions to Trainer live

no classroom recording for future revision

lab access only for 5 days

 

whereas in On Demand

===================

 

30 days in length

free VCP Exam voucher

but cannot ask questions live but can query in community if required

Lab access for 30 days

not sure if on demand videos are easily understandable or not ?

can revise videos if required

VMKDMounter won't launch, need access to VMDK for OS X Server (Snow Leopard)

I recently upgraded to Fusion 11.5. I previously had version 8. I've successfully created a virtual machine for Snow Leopard Server (10.6), but I need to mount my old Snow Leopard Server vmdk to retrieve software. I can't get VMDKMounter to launch in Mojave (macOS 10. 14.6). The old VM won't start (this message is displayed: "A fault has occurred causing a virtual CPU to enter the shutdown state"). How can I access the old VMDK? Thanks.

Pop-up window when resuming a suspended virtual machine:

 

Operation inconsistent with current state

 

What does this mean?  Why is it appearing?  What should I do about it?

 

Clicking on OK merely dismisses the pop-up error.  No detectable change elsewhere.  Activity monitor shows machine mostly idle with no CPU or memory hogs.  Nothing else running on machine except normal maintenance and system tasks.  Incidentally, the suspended machine never resumed after an hour when I gave up.

 

Application:

   - VMWare Fusion 11.5.0 (14634996)

      + Display: Accelerate 3D Graphics: off

      + Compatibility: hardware version 16

OS:

   - MacBook Pro running High Sierra 10.13.5

Hardware:

   - MacBook Pro (15-inch, Early 2011)

      + 2.3GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7

      + 8GB 133MHz DDR2 SDRAM - 2x4GB

      + 500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm

Delete snapshots from Instant Clone Master Image

Hello!

 

A client pushes a new instant clone image weekly to a pool of instant clones.  When I delete older snapshots, VCenter (or PowerCLI) respond almost instantly that it was successful.  It does remove the snapshot from the list of snapshots, however it does not really remove the vmdks for the snapshot.  It behaves this way very consistently.

 

Only the 2 most recent snapshots are really in use.  I suspect, however, that Horizon and/or VCenter have a lock on the older snapshots.

 

Is there a proper way to delete older snapshots?  If I disable the pool, can I delete the older snapshots?  If disabling the pool enables that to work, do I need to wait a few minutes for the locks to release before deleting the snapshots?

 

Now that the older snapshots no longer show up in VCenter, is there a good way to delete them without cloning the VM and losing the other snapshots?

Fusion 11.5 and macOS Catalina

I did a clean install of Catalina and then installed Fusion 11.5. When I try to run the Windows 7 VM, I get the following 3 errors. I uninstalled and reinstalled Fusion, rebooted the Mac, no change. What might I do to get this working/.

 

"Could not open /dev/vmmon: Broken pipe.

 

"Please make sure that the kernel module `vmmon' is loaded."

 

"Failed to initialize monitor device."

 

"Transport (VMDB) error -14: Pipe connection has been broken"

Statement for Workstation 15.0 and earlier being blocked by Microsoft KBs

Hi all,

 

We noticed with recent Microsoft updates,

VMware Workstation Pro and Player versions 15.0 and earlier can no longer be launched on Windows 10 1903, after these Windows 10 KBs are applied.After investigation we found following entries were added to Windows 10 Application Compatibility Database (shim database), which will block Workstation and Player with the versions less than or equal to 15.0.

We have reported this problem to Microsoft and working with them on a solution.

 

As a workaround for Workstation 15.0 customers, you can upgrade to the latest Workstation 15.5 which is a free update. For Workstation 15.0 and prior versions, you could uninstall above Microsoft KBs. If you have concerns about uninstalling above KBs, there are couple of workarounds as mentioned in following community threads:

Hello, in the io-analyzer prerequisites, it says Esxi 4 minimum. How can I solve the authentication problem?

 

Error adding host. <br />java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Host authentication failed. Please verify hostname and password.

Re-Installed ESXi 6.5.0 and Reconnected iSCSI Target Doesnt Show DataStore

Hi There,

 

I had to re-install a standalone ESXi host as the root password was lost.

 

I've reconfigured it and reconnected the iSCSI target however having scanned the target no datastores are showing.

 

I can't see any option to manually mount, so I assume it should automatically just mount when its found.

 

The iSCSI is showing as connected under the Adapters tab, but no datastores show up.

 

If I try to create a new datastore it doesnt give the iSCSI target as an option either, only the local storage.

 

Am I missing something obvious?

Does VMWare converter support Windows Server 2019 as source officially?

I have a Windows server 2019 machine on Hyper-V, and try to convert it to vCenter (or EXSi host)

VMWare Converter always reports an error: Unable to find the system volume, reconfiguration is not possible.

 

Check  product release note, I found that Windows server 2019 is not in “Supported Guest Operating Systems”.

But on the “Known Issues” -> “Windows Source”, it talks about Windows server 2019, like:

So, I’m a little confused, does Windows server 2019 is supported officially?

Cloning a template from one vCenter to another in ELM

Is this possible to do?

 

 

I am doing the following.

 

 


$TempSource = Get-Template -Name $Temps.Name -Location "SrcTemplates" -Server "vcenter1"
New-VM -Name "template" -Template $TempSource -ResourcePool "cluster" -Datastore "datastore" -Location "templates" -Server "vcenter2" -RunAsync

 

 

Whenever I run this, it starts a clone from a running VM that in the destinations vCenter. I'm trying to find a better alternative to syncing templates across locations since the content library isn't working the way it should.
