Multiple Virtual Machines - malware analysis

Hi,

 

On page 66 of the book Practical_Malware_Analysis the author mentiond that several VMs can communicate together, while they are not connected to the host.

It's quite old an teams no longer exist (What happened to Teams? - VMware Workstation Zealot - VMware Blogs )

 

 

I've opened Virtual Network Editor. I added a new VMnet (VMnet 15), clicked on host-only, and then unchecked "connect a host virtual adapter to this network" is unchecked.

My host is still getting an IP (interface Ethernet adapter WMware Network adapter VMnet15 and he is able to ping both of the guests.

Can someone please tell me why? How can I fix it?

Shrinking APFS?

So in the good old days before APFS I could shrink Mac virtually disks with this script inside the VM:

 

#!/bin/sh

sudo diskutil secureErase freespace 0 Macintosh\ HD

sudo /Library/Application\ Support/VMware\ Tools/vmware-tools-cli disk shrinkonly

sudo halt

 

...but now with APFS I have to write 0 to freespace then shut the VM down and do the shrink from the host terminal.  Is vmware-tools-cli going to gain the ability to shrink APFS?

Will VMWare Fusion 10 work on MacOS Catalina

I am currently running VMWare Fusion 10.1.6 Professional Edition. From looking at the forums, I know that version 11 is supported, but they say nothing about version 10. I am just wondering if it will work in MacOs Catalina, because one of its components is a 32 Bit app. Thanks!

VMWare workstation version 14.1.7 host support for Windows 10 1903

May have jumped the gun when I updated my system that runs VMWare Workstation version 14.1.7 to the 1903 build of Windows 10 and wanted to ask if there will be support for this build and version of VMWare workstation. If others have issues (ex. machines don't start/stop guest hang), is anyone else running this build having any luck to get things running correctly again? My guess is I just cornered myself into another costly VMWare fork lift upgrade (which there is no funding for) that may or may not support version 1903. Any information on this from the community would be sincerely appreciated.

WS Pro 15.5 "Failed to suspend the virtual machine"

Hi, I just had to upgrade from 15.0 to 15.5 due to Windows 10 update, now my CentOS 7 VM will not suspend. A dialog with the subject message appears; there is no "sub-message" like internal error or disk space or anything mentioned in other, similar posts.

 

This occurs on both my HP laptop as well as my HP workstation, and both were able to suspend their copies of the CentOS 7 VM just fine in 15.0. There have been NO changes to the VM since having to update to 15.5, so I doubt it's an issue with the guest OS.

 

Prior posts talk about settings in vmx files but they were for version 8 and the titles are not the same.

 

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Linux VM is not bootong up after patching

Hi  Friends,

 

     Need immediate help : Linux VM is not bootong up after patching

 

      In the black VMware booting screen, asking Press F2 to set up, Press F12 to Network Boot, Esc for Boot Menu..

 

     But none of them I can select. Recofiigured the NIC card but not helpful..

Distributed switch and uplink port group

Hi everyone.

Let say we have two ESXI:

ESXI1 , vmnic0, vmin1

ESXI2, vmnic 2, vmnic 3

 

Let say we have a Distributed Sw  DSW1 with up link port group  DSW-UPLINK

Can we place ESXI's vmnic0, vmnic1, ESXI2's vmnic2, vmnic 3 in DSW-UPLINK group  even though they are not the same i.e ESXI1 has vmnic0, vmnic1, while ESXI2 has vmnic2, vmnic3?

Fusion 11.5.0 running OS X vm can't resize display or share folders

I set up a Mac OS X 10.11 virtual machine so I can run 32-bit apps like Adobe CS) (since Catalina 10.15 won't support 32-bit), but the VMware Tools don't seem to be working.

 

The display won't resize from the default 1024x768 and none of the shared folders appear.

 

Is this a known problem?

VCSA 6.7 backup Activity list empty

Hi :

 

I have 3 VC all update to 6.7 last release..

I backup appliance to NFS server, backup schedule is working fine ( i can see backup folder and files in NFS Server), but in the Appliance Mamagement backup UI , it can't list backup Activity.

Does anyone have the same issue ?

unable to get more than 4 vCPU

I have server with 2x E5-2670 CPU that's total 16 cores, 32 thread, I have hyperthreading enabled but I am only see 4 VPU.  Following is what i see on vmware for the host:

 

Logical processors: 4

processor type: intel(R) CPU E5-2670 0 @ 2.6 GHz

Sockets: 2

Cores per socket: 1

Hyperthreading: yes, enabled

 

how to oncrease vCPU? I want to assign 20 vCPU to my vm. I have enterprise plus permanent license.  I am running ESXi 6.7

Has anyone successfully installed the OneDrive for Business Client in a non-persistent VDI environment?

Has anyone successfully installed the OneDrive for Business Client in a non-persistent VDI environment?  I'm looking for a procedure to get this working.

 

I see statements from Microsoft about it being not supported, but I also see blogs and products that appear redirect the OneDrive Offline Sync capability to symbolic link or VHD container.

 

Any assistance would be appreciated.

OneDrive (Next Gen Client) inconsistent at startup

Is anyone else having issues with their OneDrive client not always loading/staying loaded at startup? About half of the time it will load into the tray and be good to go, the other half it will have a line through it and just quit out (checking event viewer shows a KernelDLL error). I'm imagining something with startup and updating the application as well as the loading profile pieces from UEM, but I'm having trouble verifying if that's the case. I have updated the client to the latest non-beta version on the OS.

 

1809 LTSC

Horizon 7.9 Agent

UEM 9.8 (was present on 9.7 as well)

AppVol 2.18 Agent

Schedule workflow by script

Hi There,

 

I am getting "InternalError: Cannot schedule workflow: Task "test-workflow" is planned in the past " while scheduling the workflow by script

 

Code:

var recurrenceCycle = "every-minutes";

var recurrencePattern = '1';

dteStartDate = '2019-10-11 08:10:00'

dteStartDate = '2019-10-12 08:10:00'

var prop = {

           // workflow properties

}

var task = workflowToSchedule.scheduleRecurrently(props, recurrencePattern, recurrenceCycle, dteStartDate, dteEndDate);

task.restartInPast = true;

 

Please help me out to overcome this issue.

Partial upload to vCloud Director 9.5 API

From the VMware vCloud Director API Documentation Center, I am trying to Upload an OVF Package to Create a vApp Template, There are 5 steps/Procedures as listed below:

1) Initiating the OVF Upload 2 Retrieving the Upload URL for the OVF Descriptor

3 Uploading the OVF Descriptor

4 Retrieving Additional Upload URLs

5) Uploading Referenced Files

All the above steps work fine, and I am able to upload the the vapp template on the vcloud director.

But when I tried Using Ranged PUT requests to Complete a Partial Upload it uploads the complete file.

Request Headers:

{"x-vcloud-authorization": <session_token>, "Content-Length": <size of the file>, "Content-Range": bytes 0-10000/58358272, "Range": bytes=0-10000}

Request Body: As I am trying this from postman selecting binary and choosing the vmdk file.

With the above request I get 200 Response status code, empty response body, and I see the template in ready state in the vCloud director. It uploaded the file completely.

I have also tried adding Request Headers:

{"x-vcloud-authorization": <session_token>, "Range": bytes=0-10000}

and

{"x-vcloud-authorization": <session_token>, "Content-Length": <size of the file>, "Content-Range": bytes 0-10000/58358272}

But no Joy, Can someone please help me to understand what I am doing wrong?

RHEL guest managed vmtools upgradeable or not?

Hello, I googled and searched also the RH KB but have not found an aswer to my questions:

 

1. Is the guest managed vmtools that red hat comes with upgradeable? Any repository I need to configure in UM?

2. Are the guest managed vmtools better than the classic VMWare vmtools available on the ESXi hosts?

V Center HA Feature Fail over scenarios

Hi every one.

I am learning new VCA HA  feature , have some questions:

Let say we have  single VCA say VCA1, we have implemented VCA HA for our VCA1.

 

VCA1 is currently active, while VCA1( cloneVM) is passive.

VCA1 goes down, as a result VCA1 ( clone VM) now becomes active.  After a few minutes,  VCA1 comes back up, what will happen next?

 

1)Will VCA1 regain its role as ACTIVE or VCA1 ( clone VM) continue to be ACTIVE while VCA1 assumes PaSSIVE role?

 

2)Will VCA1 assume PASSIVE role because VCA1 ( clone VM) is ACTIVE?
