Licensing question
Hi Everyone,
as I can't reach the support for my simple question, I thought I ask you
I just need a reliable information about what license/s I need to purchase if I want to use ESXi 5.5 with 5 Virtual Servers?
Specs are: 1 Blade with 2 Sockets each 6 Cores, each machine 4-5 vCPUs and around 16GB Ram.

vim.fault.NotAuthenticated at 26% using VMWare converter 6.1.1
Hello,
I am having an issue doing a V2V conversion of a Linux machine. The source is located on local storage of an ESX 4.1.0 build 260247 and the destionation system is an ESXi 6.0.0 build 2494585 (using vCenter) and local SSD storage.
I did the same conversion in a test environment (which is identical) last week, without any problem, but at the live environment it keeps failing at 26% with the same error.
Since it is 2 times on the same source disk, I am assuming it is not a network issue, but rather a problem of the source disk. But I attached the logfiles for you to investigate.
The source machine is shut down before conversion, and the second time I tried I even rebooted the whole source ESX just to be sure... but without success.The source ESX only has 25 GB free, but I have read 200 MB should even be enough?
Could you please assist?

Unable to boot esxi 6 with DiskLun error
I'm running an esxi 6 host on my Dell poweredge 2950 G2 with perc5i raid controller. Running 4 2TB WD disks in raid5 (storage) and one singel disk as system disk and VM.
It's been running for several years with esxi 4-5-6 with no problems.
No suddenly I'm not able to boot up the system.
The boot stops on "nfs4client loaded successfully"
If i then his F1 I get a list of errors I dont realy understand:

UCS LAG group configuration
I am setting up 2 UCS chassis each with a number of blades. Each chassis has 2 x 10Gb uplinks to they physical switches. how many LAG groups need to be configured? One for each chassis?

2nd Uplink added into vDS hosts disconnected
When i try to add 2nd Uplink into the vDS i lost connection from my all hosts.
Using Cisco UCS Uplinks (FI-A vmnic0 & FI-B vmnic1). i down the vmnic1 from the console then hosts come back.
From vDS i am using both uplink active/active
Any body got this type of problem and how to solve this issue?

vRO package export/import using REST API but what about rebuilding a package?
Hi,
I can export and import a package using the REST API. The package is made up of all workflows in a certain project folder.
This is great, but when we make e.g. another workflow in our project folder, it is not automatically part of the package. That reduces the value of being able to schedule an export of it, as it would still need that manual interaction.
Is there a way to do (automate/CLI/REST/...) this?

VM Host Windows DHCP server not handing out IPs
Hello All,
I'm simply trying to get my host Windows 2008 to hand out addresses to the ESXi servers. The DHCP server is also has DNS installed and DHCP scope is activated.
Under Network Editor I tried the following type of connections: Host only, NAT and Custom with all host being on the same VMNet. I even cleared all setting before rebooting PC.
Does anyone have the an answer?

Form Blueprints takes too long to load (504 Error)
Hi,
I have been working on vRA 6.2 distributed architecture. We are using 2 vRA Appliances, 2 Web Server and 2 DEM Servers using F5 Load Balancers for every services.
Lately, we have found the VM blueprint form at the catalog takes more than 2 minutes to load, it used to send an error 504 but now we changed a timeout to make sure the form was going to load successfully even thought sometimes it takes a lot of time.
I have been checking everything but I still cannot find any error or failure at the infrastructure, everything is working just fine.
I wish you could help me to track the error.

ESXi 5.5 stops working (freeze), network connection lost, no keyboard interaction possible, but no PSOD

I need some suggestions, because I have no idea anymore:
My Esxi suddenly stops working. I have to completely restart the hardware machine. No keyboard interaction is possible more, the NICs are gone - nothing. Hardware (certified):
1xIntel Xeon 4-Core E3-1220V3 3.1GHz 8MB
1x Adaptec 8805 SAS3 8x internal
1x Asus Motherboard P9D-MV
5x 2 TB SATA III WD Raid Edition 3.5" 7.2k

Nothing follows in the logs until the reboot begins.
Does anyone have an idea what this means? There are only rare information to find with google and no information regarding this special problem. Does anyone have an idea how I can track down which device "0x4108b87f5630" is?
I already updated to the lates ESXi 6, but the problem persists. I started it in 5, because it came up with 5.5. The first time the problem occurs was during the restart of a windows server 2013 R2 guest. I tried to find out, if the guest causes the error, but the error comes up also when the guest is down.

Unfortunatley I have to correct myself. It seems, that some hardware is not certified - The system was running for so long, that I have it mistaken for another system. Nevertheless I appreciate help

Cannot install any Linux OS
I recently upgraded my laptop and went to try to install a guest Linux OS when I found that no matter what I tried nothing would get them installed. I've tried different distros (Kali, Ubuntu, Mint, CentOS), both 32 and 64 bit versions of those distros, I've tried the light and mini versions, as well as pre-built vms, and I have tried transferring working guests from my other computers still with no luck. I've also tried various different combinations of install and vmware guest settings. Any thoughts on what else could be wrong?
I'm running 64 bit Windows 10 Pro with a 2.6GHz i7-6700HQ, 16GB RAM with a GeForece GTX 970M and a 4k display.

We have migrated some VM's to a new cluster that is protected by Trend Micro Deep Security (Version 9.6.3177).
NSX File introspection is installed.
Our 2008 R2 VM's are BSOD'ing all over the place. The crash dump segment shows the below...

Note the file "vsepflt.sys" seems to be the cause. It's the vShield End Point Filter Driver.
Has anyone run into this and have you fixed it?
This article shows how to unload and stop the driver from loading...
Trend Micro Deep Security (Version 9.6.3177) needs that to protect the VM's so that's really not a fix.
I also uninstalled the VMware Tools and re-installed them. No change.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Creating a datastore only seeing 3 TB of the 4 TB hard drive
I just installed ESXi 6.0 on a brand new server. I have 2 4 TB mirrored volumes (4 hard drives total). I'm trying to create a data store to use all 8 TB. What is the best way to do this? At the moment ESXi is only seeing 3 TB on each volume. Thanks!

ESXi 5.5 vShield Endpoint Blue Screen Issues.
Hello,
Has anyone else dealt with the following issue or know of a workaround? We have this exact issue in our production environment and have had to revert from using vshield endpoint antivirus. I noticed the Resolution has changed from "no workaround" to "contact vmware support" Unfortunately they will not speak to me because I don't have an active support contract with vmware directly.

Disable vMotion on all VMs in a resource pool
We have a use case requirement that we disable vMotion on all VMs that get added to a specific resource pool. It's not a setting that you can toggle via the settings of a resource pool. Has anybody solved this problem? Current thinking is we can use vCO or something to poll and disable vMotion per vm. Ideas? Thanks, Blake

Steer clear of vRA 7
I'm engaged in a vRA 7 fully distributed HA environment with external vROs and the platform is not stable. While installation may go smoothly, HA is not currently possible due to either bugs in the vRA appliances or in the vRO appliances. Both embedded vRO and external vRO result in platform outages either randomly or when a vRO node is taken offline.
The behavior seen with the embedded vRO is that randomly one of the nodes will simply stop working. Then if you reboot the other node, you're no longer able to bring the environment online at all. This is due to the new load balancer rules that check the health of all services on the vRA appliances. Due to the appliance not being completely healthy (embedded vRO service isn't running) the load balancer doesn't send traffic to it. The other appliance that is attempting to boot can't start because vRO is unavailable and the shell-ui-app and advanced-designer-service services refuse to start until it is.
The behavior with external vRO appliances is similar, but slightly different. The first difference is that the vRO appliances don't randomly stop working as seen with the vRO embedded service. Also, because there is a separate load balancer VIP (and associated health checks) one would think that vRO can continue to run even if vRA is offline. Unfortunately that isn't the case because to assign licenses to the vRO appliances you need to authenticate using the vRealize Automation authentication provider. This would also be fine, if that authentication method didn't use the vRA load balancer VIP which requires all services on the vRA appliances to be running for traffic to pass to it.
So essentially you end up with an infinite loop because vRA requires vRO to be online for it to start and vRO requires vRA to be online for it to start. The only way around this is to disable the health checks on the vRA appliances temporarily any time you need to take either of the vRO nodes offline (or one goes offline), and even this sometimes doesn't work and requires you to then restart the vRA appliances for it come back online. Ultimately this results in unplanned downtime.

Cannot install VMware Tools on Windows 2012 server vm
Hello,
I'm trying to install VMware Tolls on two 2012 R2 Datacenter server vm's and am getting the same problem on both. I'm running VMware Workstation 10.0.3 and get the error message - Setup Cannot Continue. The Microsoft Runtime Installer failed to complete installation. (see screenshots attached).
I've used the D:\setup and get the same problem. Also disable UAC and the service Windows installer is set to manual.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
