How can I determine if disk being hotadded to a proxy taking a long time is due to storage latency on the storage system, CPU contention on the host, or some other factor?
HI Team, Can some body provide guidance on how to run ASU64 tool in ESX 5 servers
Hello!
I use workstation to play a game (botting).
After 6-7 hours always got an error: VIDEO_SCHEDULER_INTERNAL_ERROR then the virtual machine shut down.
How to fix this?
Thanks!
Several years ago when I was taught Fibre Channel concepts. It was explained to me that a WWNN was the node name, and referred to the Node's (think appliance) internal global FC WWN of that device. The benefits were that:
* regardless of which port you attached your SAN to, if you were LUN masking to that WWNN you would always see the LUN and maintain connectivity
* clustered devices could share the WWNN, so in failover FC would not see the transition from one device to another.
In practice, I have always LUN masked and Zoned switches using WWPNs, then used mutlipathing software on the initiator so that failover between paths is automatic. So I'm left a bit confused as to the practicality of the above and where it actually comes in to play? Is it a historic thing which predates initiator multipathing?

Fast-forward to today, and I suddenly notice in VMWare's vCenter 5, under Host -> Configuration -> Storage Adaptors, I have a 2 port HBA which is listed as vmhba2 and vmhba3
Under each vmhba, I see two unique WWNs, and I read that the first is the WWNN and the second address is the WWPN:
* I note that the WWNNs of each vmhba do not match, whereas I believe from previous teachings that since they are located in the same ESXi host, they should probably be identical?
* Secondly, if what I was taught only applied to the particular appliance which I was trained on rather than FC as a whole, and perhaps the WWNN is only usually unique to the HBA, since vmhbas are ports on the same physical HBA does this indicate there are 2 ASICS on the HBA?
I then read the following excerpt from a book called "Mastering VMWare vSphere 5.5" authored by Scott Lowe and Nick Marshall, page 296 which says:
"WWNs can be worldwide port names (a port on a switch) or node names (a port on an endpoint)"
Which suggests to me that WWPNs only exist on FC switches are are the correct name for a switch port, which is adding more confusion? Is the above just poorly written?
Thanks
James
Hello,
Please, is there any way to deploy VIO in an environment using Essentials Plus license? Like old VOVA ? Or is there other update solution for this?
Thanks
Carlos
Hi,
The vCenter connection works. But the vROM is not identified.
No vCAC Objects are collected.
Has anyone a working environment like this?
@PeterBrown, is Serial Port Redirection available in linux client 3.4.0?
Will it be soon? I would use the communities messaging feature but it appears that I can no longer send messages directly using such a feature.
Hi all,
talking about AD integrated ESXi hosts. With ESXi 5.0 VMware has introduced an important improvement in AD integration by making the name of the infamous "ESX Admins" AD group configurable (see my blog post here for instructions and an explanation of why this is important).
However, there is still a problem: You can log on to a local or remote console using an AD account that has administrative rights, but you won't have root privileges in this session, e.g. you cannot edit any configuration files, restart services etc. To gain root rights you need to use su, but that means that you still need to know and enter the password of the root user! From a compliance standpoint this is not acceptable, because the whole point of AD integration is that each VMware administrator uses his AD account for administration and does not even know the root password - to make sure that each change to the system can easily be related to a personal account (Well, for emergency cases e.g. when AD authentication is not available you still need someone who knows the root password or e.g. has it written down on a piece of paper in a sealed envelope).
The easiest way to achieve this would be to use the sudo command in the ESXi shell to run commands in root context without the need to know root's password. This is common practice when managing Unix/Linux servers.
Now the point is: sudo used to be available in ESX, but it is not available in ESXi.
So, my feature request for VMware is that easy: Add sudo to ESXi! It is the missing piece that would make AD integration a success story, finally.
Now give me your +1's ! (or tell me that I'm wrong and why ;-)
Thanks
Andreas
I do not know if this is a known problem with VMWare Guests, or an odd quirk of Windows 10.
Windows 10 (release) host.
Windows 10 (release) guest
Homegroup is on Lan and detected by guest, and a prompt is given to join Homegroup. Appropriate passkey entered into dialog and the system goes away for a long time (three-five minutes) then replaces the dialog with a message saying that the Homegroup is no longer on the network. (It is of course).
I obviously don't care too much whether I use the Homegroup but it may be indicative of other VMWare Lan issues, or a network compatibility issue with the Win10 release

Using vCA API's in java, I want to write a code to turn off all vApps in that particular vOrg. Can anyone guide me?
Hi,
we have been expanding our plugin to include views which use the html Bridge.
The first step was to show data about our custom types. The requests go from the gui - to the DataAccessControlller as seen in the Chassis samples. Then a RequestSpec is generated, and sent to the dataService :
dataService.getData(requestSpec).
The dataServices then forwards the request to our DataProviderAdapter - just as in the sample. All works well.
Now we want to rewrite some of the other views (for hosts, vcenters etc) to use the html Bridge as well, but these views use PropertyRequestSpecs for getting data. These requests should be forwarded to the PropertyProviderAdapter - where all the code has been written
I tried something like the following:
if (targetType == customType) - build a RequestSpec, and send this to the dataService
if (targetType == managedObjectType (like a host) - build a PropertyRequestSpec and send it to the dataService. This
does not work, because the dataService only takes RequestSpecs as Parameter for getData().
I looked at the vsphere samples, and saw that they also make RequestSpecs and send them to the dataService. These requests however do get forwarded to their PropertyProviderAdapter.- and I could not find any difference in the way the RequestSpecs were built.
The difference between the 2 samples and my DataProvider is that I have both a DataProviderAdapter and a PropertyProviderAdapter in the same DataProvider.
So the question is: Is there a way to have the dataService send the request to either the correct Adapter (or to both) - depending on the targetType?
Thanks for any ideas
Cathy
Hi,
My vCenter server have 16GB memory, but 94% memoey utililized by sqlservr.exe and java.exe
Please advice how to drop the utilization.
Thanks
I have one specific user who gets "Unknown Username or bad password" for her windows account on a Wyse P25. One work around we found is after her failed login attempt, I login with my domain admin account and sign off. She can then login with no problem. The View Composer server that sign's on for the Windows users has logs in event viewer as "Audit Failure, sub status 0xc0000064" which I believe the code translates to "username does not exist". I find this odd obviously because she has an account and she can sign on sometimes. Does anyone have any ideas?
Side notes:
She is often signed on a physical machine but locks this computer before trying to sign in any where else. She has tried signing off completely, but we still see the same error. Also we thought that since it saves usernames, that it might be saving some kind of credentials (hence me signing in and off) but she has tried logging onto other thin clients that she hadn't signed on before but still got the error. The VM pool is based off of a Win7 machine in a Windows 2008r2 domain. No other user has this problem, but no other user signs on multiple locations like she does.
Hi

Hi, I'm trying to download patches manually for various versions of vSphere 5 from https://my.vmware.com/group/vmware/patch#search
It allows me to search but I then can't tick the boxes to activate the download button both tickbox and download buttons are greyed out.
I assume this is some sort of java/browser setting but I can't get it to work on IE, Chrome or Firefox on Windows or Firefox on Linux Mint or Android browser.
I guess I've missed something but just wanted to check it's working for anyone else?
Thanks
