Hello guys,
I have recently made some changes to my VMware lab.
I am running vCenter 5.1 with several ESXi 5.1 hosts. My vCenter had been running on one of the ESXi 5.1 hosts until I recently migrated it onto a Windows 8 Box which was running VMware Workstation 9. The vCenter is up and running normally and I am able to add the hosts into inventory, however they are disconnecting after about 60-90 seconds. I believe this issue is that heartbeats which are being sent by the host are not reaching the vCenter (port 902), I believe it's similar to the issue discussed in the following KB:http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1029919
Here are my questions:
1. The KB article describes downloading wireshark and running some scripts. Is there an easier away to do this? I literally just want to verify this single port from the ESXi host, there's no telnet equivilent from an ESXi host?
2. Does VMware Workstation 9 block ports or run its own firewall of some kind? Since this vCenter was functioning perfectly while running on the ESXi 5.1 host we know it's not a firewall issue on the VM, I have also checked the Windows 8 machine running VMware workstation and have verified the windows firewall is off. Windows firewall is not the issue.
Thanks,
Duncan.
