Hey guys,
I am new to configuring resource pool. I read quite a few articles and have not been able to achieve my goal. I have multiple clusters with a configuration of 6 esx hosts. each host has 98 GB or ram which gives me a rough amount of 575gb of ram per cluster. Also each host has 12 cpus, 2 processor sockets, 6 cores per socket and 24 logical processors. I want to configure my windows 7 vms for optimize performance. I wish to create 200 vms per cluster with the following configuration each.
Yes i do know i don't need to give it 2 cores. I am using wyse streaming manager to stream to the vms like a zero client so it's a requirement to give it 2 cpus else it would be streaming extremely slow. yes i've tested it with both 1 & 2 cpus.
windows 7 vm config
2gb of ram
1 virtual socet 2 cores per socket
I want to configure a resource pool that does the following
each vms should have 2 gbs or ram but since there are extra ram available whichever wms need extra ram can grab some out of the available resource. how can i configure the resource pool to make this possible. I would even consider reconfigure the vms if needed.
200 vms x 2 gb of ram = 401 gb of ram
extra ram let's just say 165 gb since i want to leave some for the hosts themselves to perform their tasks.
what number should go here
what's the shares amount?
how many mhz should the reservation be?
should expandable reservation be check?
what's the limit?
for both CPU and Memory resources.
Thanks in advance for all helps.
