Hello Everyone,
I am attempting to P2V a SBS 2008 box.
However, no matter what I do the P2V is very slow. The VM is almost 450 GB in size. I expected this to go very smoothly but I had nothing but trouble since the get go.
I am using VMware-converter-all-5.0.1-875114 installed directly on the SBS to convert "This Machine" into my ESXi infrastructure.
The ESXi infrastructure contains a single ESXi server running VMWare ESXi 5.0.0 build 469512, and a vCenter virtual appliance running on top of this host (version VMware-vCenter-Server-Appliance-5.0.0.3324-472350).
At first, the conversion was PAINFULLY slow at 2MB/s. I did some googling and linking to this article which suggested to firstly target the vCenter server and also switch of SSL for the NFC protocol. I have done all this and still my transfer speed is capped out at 15% of gigabit. It starts off with converting the VM at about 17 MB/s and continues while fluctuating between 14 MB/s and 20 MB/s.
I have attempted to
- Switch off SSL in NFC
- Target the Converter direct to the ESX Host
- Tarket the Converter direct to the vCenter VM
No matter what I do I can't get it to go any faster than 20 MB/s.
I can however get it to go at 50MB/s to a workstation that I had handy if I select "Conver this powered-on physical machine to a vmware workstation virtual machine".
Any ideas how I can make it P2V faster?
